resources that past pre-medical students have found most valuable in their their undergraduate careers.
In addition to all of these, we have found that speaking with deans and professors about possible 4-year plans, volunteer plans, etc., is indispensable.
Georgetown University Undergraduate Pre-Medical Studies

American Association of Medical Colleges
The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) has compiled a website dedicated to the needs of students applying to medical school, such as details about the MCAT examination.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that exists to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies and to provide relief for the victims of disasters. Its VolunteerMatch website details D.C.-area opportunities for emergent care.
Career Education Center at Georgetown University
Located just inside the main entrance to the Leavey Student Center, the Career Education Center is open on weekdays to Georgetown students looking for career advice, volunteer opportunities, research and internship positions, and various professional workshops.
Center for Social Justice
Students committed to service and community campaigns should strive to become involved with Georgetown's very own Center for Social Justice. Located just outside of Healy Gates, the CSJ maintains several connections between students and the larger D.C. community.
Co-Op/Internship Opportunities for Pre-Medical Students
This website has selected hundreds of co-ops that meet any of the following criteria: (1) biomedical research, (2) located in a medical or clinical setting, (3) located in a medical school or health science center, (4) has "biomedical" as a descriptor, (5) may be of particular interest to pre-med students.
Georgetown University Hospital
Georgetown students live in an ideal location to volunteer their services to patients and professionals at Georgetown University Hospital. Applications and requirements to volunteer at the hospital can be found here.
Gervase Programs
Georgetown's Gervase Programs comprise a diverse collection of programs dedicated to enhancing intellectual life on campus. Contained are the Carroll Fellows Initiative, which supports students who are training themselves to become change agents in the larger world, and the Georgetown Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (GUROP), which allows students and professors to work together on engaging research projects outside the classroom.
GlobeMed at Georgetown
GlobeMed is a network of university students that partner with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of people living in poverty. Georgetown's newly formed chapter is eager to engage in fundraising and campaigns, about global health. The chapter meets weekly to discuss international health topics and campus events. GUMSHOE: Georgetown University Math & Science Hands-On Enrichment
GUMSHOE is DC's largest student-run math and science outreach organization. The program was founded in 2007 and currently consists of 75 Georgetown undergraduates who serve as tutors for hundreds of elementary, middle, and high school students around the city. Additionally, GUMSHOE hosts the annual Discovery Summit, a symposium assembling the most talented and motivated students at local high schools for a day of science discovery and career exploration.
Howard Hughes Scholar Program
Conducted by the Biology Department at GU, the Howard Hughes Scholar program is contained under the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Students participating in the program receive intensive research experience during their undergraduate careers. The program is highly competitive and open for application to high school seniors accepted to Georgetown, as well as Georgetown first- and second-years.
National Institutes of Health
Research, clerical, and organizational opportunities are in abundance in D.C. The NIH is a premier institution providing such possibilities to students.
Program on Science in the Public Interest
The mission of the Georgetown University Program on Science in the Public Interest (SPI) is to provide students with concrete opportunities to address some of the most challenging science and society problems of our time. The internship program for upperclasmmen provides students with the tools and opportunities to affect change in three major focus areas: Government, Industry, and Community.
The Triple Helix
With only a few chapters across the world at reputable universities, Georgetown's up-and-coming Triple Helix journal is an excellent source of scientific news about international health, physical and biological sciences, and other scientific topics. The journal is entirely student-run, with student article submissions being published by the international Triple Helix journal.
